MILANI FASHION NAIL TRENDS: #4 Haute Rod Milani White on the Spot This is the last trend of Milani’s 4 Fashion Nail Trends. Whew! I certainly had a lot of fun creating different looks with the Milani polishes. Again, like the last few looks that I recreated, I used the name of the trends as my inspiration. With Haute Rod, I imagined a fashionable car with fire coming out of the exhaust system. We have been seeing many amazing gradient nails lately, so I wanted to create a fiery manicure using a makeup sponge. With White on the Spot as my base, I started painting Rapid Cherry, Jiffy Orange, and Totally 80’s across a small piece of sponge. Then I gently dabbed the sponge onto my nails to cover up the white. For my accent nail, I used three coats of Red Sparkle to add a contrast from the “fire.” And that concludes the Fashion Nail Trends project! Be sure to check out Milani’s boards on Pinterest (here) to see the amazing nail designs created by other nail bloggers. Today I am showing you my interpretation of the third of the 4 Fashion Nail Trends from Milani. The last three designs looked quite similar to me when I started working on the designs, so I spoke with Emily from The Lacquerologist (she’s also working on these designs, so check her page out!) and she suggested that I should make use of gold. Okay, so that took care of ‘gilded.’ Then I thought about what a golden rebel would look like. A rebel. Hmm, something rebellious. Automatically my mind went to the idea of studs - a studded/spiked, black jacket. I started with Milani’s Black Swift for the base on four of my fingers and Gold Glitz for my accent finger. Then, using a dotting tool, I created polka dotted “studs” on every finger. Gold Glitz is a luxurious gold glitter polish that covers the nail beautifully in just one coat. It dries with a matte finish and can be on the bumpy side. A good helping of top coat easily smooths out the manicure. What do you think of this simple manicure? Now, I really don’t know what Glamazon means, but I made it work with my imagination. In my head, ‘Glamazon’ is the baby of ‘Glamour’ and ‘Amazon’, so I wanted to create a wild (like a snake in an amazon) look with some sort of bling-blang-glamorous glitter polish. I started this manicure with a glimmering glitter polish called Purple Gleam from Milani. Oh man, this purple is absolutely stunning! I will review this polish in a later blog post (I saved a swatch picture in my vault of drafts). Then, to create a sort of wild look, I cut out triangular pieces of tape to block off the purple. Finally, I painted one coat of Silver Dazzle over, removed the tape, and voila! I really like that Silver Dazzle has a dull, matte finish, so to preserve the look, I did not use a top coat over this manicure. Can you see the shiny finish of the purple under the dull finish of the silver? I love the contrasting textures! Tomorrow’s post will be a look inspired by the next trend: Gilded Rebel. Stay tuned! I am excited to tell you that I (and some of my fellow nail bloggers) have partnered up with Milani to create nail designs inspired by their 4 Fashion Nail Trends. Today I will be showing you a Color Block design created by using striping tape. I started my manicure with my favorite, quick-drying white polish - White on the Spot by Milani. I already reviewed this polish several months ago here, so I won’t rave about it again! Then I used striping tape to tape off the areas where I did not want polish to touch. Tips:
On one nail at a time, I painted each section with either Totally 80’s or Fresh Teal. I chose these two colors because they are both from Milani’s Neon collection and I wanted something bright on my nails. And that’s it! What do you think? Would you try this look on your own nails?
